Last year, we witnessed a great milestone in LGBT rights: the national legalization of same gender marriage. However, it seems that some people believe the fight is now over. While this is a significant advancement, other serious issues that LGBT individuals face are ignored or simply unknown by many. In the cartoon, there are three others climbing to reach the top who represent these issues, such as homelessness for young LGBT people, the hate crimes and violence many face, as well as barriers in healthcare for trans people. I think it would be good to focus on these issues and others and to remember that disparities still exist even with recent change, so that we can work towards improving the lives of LGBT people.
