On the bus ride to the games are they just listening to music or sleeping? Do football players have hobbies outside of football and if so, what are they? They could, be knitting a sweater or perhaps practicing their vocals for their a cappella group. These players are more than just athletes. People may be surprised by the variety of hobbies they are engaged in.

Dalton Anderson ’25 has had an interest in football since watching it as a kid with his dad. Anderson states, “when the season ends, my hobbies kind of include going on walks, and I like to write music lyrics.” Anderson’s only sport at the moment is football, so in his free time Anderson enjoys watching movies, “I’m a big rom-com guy.”

Malaki Davis ’25 has been playing football since he was six or seven and has always looked up to college athletes, “I’ve always just wanted to be like them.” Davis wants to continue to play football in college and “go to school on a scholarship”. However, besides that, an aspiration he has is to “have my own brand and my own clothing line, so I’ll just work on that.” Davis continued, “I’m really creative. I love artsy stuff like fashion design, writing, music, all that so I do that with my friends in my free time.”

Wilbur Mead ’25 became interested in football because he loved the “excitement of the game and the vibe of the team.” During the off season, Mead said, “I usually go on fishing trips with some of my buddies or take backpacking trips up the mountains.” In addition, outside of football Mead enjoys playing baseball, as well as surfing, and hiking. He added, “I love being outdoors and connecting with nature.”

His after high school plans include “going to college for marine biology and possibly playing collegiate baseball.” Although there wasn’t actual a cappella groups, or any sweaters being knit, music, movies, fashion, and outdoor sports are just a few examples of the wide variety of hobbies engaged in by Roosevelt football players.
