The Best Pens and Pencils that Will Keep Your School Year Poppin’

For me, one of the most exciting aspects of the new school year is buying all the different types of supplies and stationery. As someone who is extremely picky about what pens and pencils they choose, these are just some of my favorites to help keep your new semester poppin’.

Zebra Mildliners
These are some of my favorite highlighters due to their smoothness and light pastel colors. Sometimes with other brands of highlighter I have trouble reading the text afterwards, but this isn’t a problem with Mildliners. All Mildliners are double tipped, with one classic “highlighter” chisel?shape and one thinner marker that is great for underlining. There is a great variety of colors with this brand and these markers are perfect for any note taking for
your classes. My one complaint is that I have found that they run out of ink quite quickly: I have used up four of the highlighters since the beginning of the year. Although you can buy them individually at the University Bookstore, I recommend buying the packets off of Amazon as they are much cheaper. If you don’t want to shell out $6 for a pack of highlighters, there is a Mildliner dupe from Daiso for only $2 for a pack of five which also works well.

Pentel Arts Slicci 0.25 mm. Extra Fine
For people looking for a very fine-tipped pen, this is the one for you. One of my favorite pens, the Pentel Slicci is extremely smooth and makes anyone’s handwriting look amazing. I have found that because of the thin lines, my notes tend to look more neat and pretty. Be warned, there is a little smudging and the pens run out fairly quickly, but they are worth the cost. I buy these in bulk in the beginning of the year from the University Bookstore.

Pentel Sharp Automatic Pencil 0.5mm
This is my go to pencil every school year. They may be a little pricey, but it is worth it due to their durability (as long as you don’t lose it). The sleek body of the pencil fits perfectly in your hand and is very comfortable to hold. Although I always go for the 0.5mm or 0.3mm lead, for people who like thicker lead and have a heavier hand the 0.7mm or 0.9mm maybe a better option.

Sakura Pigma Micron Blister Card Ink Pen Set
If you do not want your writing to smear, the Pigma Micron pens are the ones for you. They dry quickly, are waterproof, have minimal bleeding, and don’t streak when they are erased over. This pen set comes in groups of three and six, with the most common sizes ranging from 0.2 mm to 0.5 mm. You can also buy them individually at the University Bookstore, where there is a wider range of sizes. However, be warned that the tip is very delicate and they tend to break or fray fairly easily. I do not recommend sizes smaller than 0.2 mm tip as I bought the 0.15 mm Pigma Micron and even though I write extremely lightly, the pen tip squashed down after only a week or two.
